Power Point Presentation - Belief Systems

Our study of the world this year has included an exploration of a number of world religions and important philosophies. The fourth quarter project, a Power Point presentation based on one of these belief systems, will serve as a review for the final exam as well as a chance for you to practice your skill using Power Point and an opportunity to go a little bit further beyond class and learn more about one religion or philosophy.

The following are the steps and guidelines for the project:

  • Choose ONE of the following world religions or philosophies:
    • Hinduism
    • Buddhism
    • Judaism
    • Islam
    • Confucianism
    • Taoism
    • Shintoism
    • animism ( You must check with Ms. Mone before choosing this one.)
    • Sikhism (You must check with Ms. Mone before choosing this one.)
  • You must have a minimum of 12 slides for the project - There is no maximum number of slides - Just remember that quantity does not always equal QUALITY
  • Topics you must cover in the slides are:
    • origins/founder - include dates here as well
    • God or gods (for religions only)
    • basic beliefs and/or moral teachings
    • texts or written documents associated with the belief system
    • teachings concerning life and death (for religions only)
    • map indicating in what parts of the world the belief system is found today
  • You may present information in the slides in bulleted points or in complete sentences. Use headings/titles as appropriate
  • Please work to keep slides clear and intelligible. Do not cram too much into one slide or put minimal content on a slide simply to get to twleve slides more quickly.
  • Use a font that is easy to read
  • Do use backgrounds, but make sure that your slides are legible and that it is the content that is highlighted and not the glittery/flashy /blinking colors that steal the show
  • Text for your slides MAY NOT BE COPIED FROM THE INTERNET - If any part of the text is copied from the internet, YOU WILL RECEIVE A ZERO FOR THE ENTIRE PROJECT!
  • You must have a minimum of 8 pictures in the presentation. Pictures may be cut and pasted from the internet (because you are using them for educational purposes and obviously not trying to pass them off as your own work). Be careful when using pictures from the internet. Make sure that they will enlarge clearly if you need to make them bigger. Also, if you decide to use a picture for a background, make sure that it is not distorted because of the enlargement or changes in the dimensions.
  • Each picture must have a caption indicating what the picture is of or why it is significant.
  • Presentations must be turned in on disk or CD with your name clearly labeled on it- NO E-MAIL SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED. I do not want to have to deal with your telling me you sent it and my not having received it. Get all your technical difficulties resolved before the due date and make sure that you can save it properly.
  • Projects are due IN CLASS on Friday, May 16th.
  • Ten points will be deducted for each day a project is late
  • Remember: Ms. Mone is a stickler for follwing directions. Make sure you do what is REQUIRED first before including additonal content or putting in all the fancy options Power Point allows.
  • The attached checklist sheet is for your use. It is to help you make sure that you have fulfilled all of the requirements. You do not have to turn in this sheet.
